Summary

The PIM working group session covered several drafts, including two proposals for PIM DR improvements, an OAM mechanism for Point-to-Multipoint (PTP) policy PING, the PIM Light specification, the IGMP/MLD Snooping YANG model for L2VPN, and a PIM MoFR solution based on TRFA. Additionally, two new individual drafts proposing SRv6-based multicast traffic engineering solutions were presented. Key discussions revolved around comparing different technical approaches, resolving open issues, and determining next steps for adoption and further development.

Key Discussion Points

PIM DR Improvements (Backup DR and Sticky DR)

PTP Multicast Policy PING (OAM for SRv6 P2MP)

PIM Light

IGMP/MLD Snooping YANG Model for L2VPN

PIM MoFR based on TRFA (Topology-aware Reverse-path Forwarding Algorithm)

SRv6 Multicast Traffic Engineering Solutions

Two new individual drafts were presented proposing SRv6-based multicast TE solutions, both aiming for stateless forwarding in intermediate nodes. These are alternatives to existing stateful replication segment solutions. Bob Hinden (6man chair) noted that header format and processing could be discussed in 6man, while the higher-level multicast routing concept fits better in PIM.

1. Multicast using Multicast Routing Header (SRv6-MRH)

2. Multicast Source Routing over IPv6 TE (SRv6-MSR)
